bon appétit

today I have done nothing but cook, but I have thoroughly enjoyed myself.

in the UK it is mother's day tomorrow, but for the Garwood family we celebrated it today. my sister's aren't able to come over tomorrow as they have there own children to spend mother's day with.

as I may have mentioned previously, I am a huge foodie and cooking is a real passion of mine. I find myself constantly watching cooking programmes in my free time/after work, I cannot help myself.

unfortunately my dad is unwell and has been bed-ridden all day, so he did not join us for dinner. but being the lovely daughter I am, I made sure there was plenty left for when he is feeling better. I chose my menu last weekend, flicking through books, looking through websites and generally brainstorming. I decided on antipasto for starter, so mixed olives with feta, sweet red peppers stuffed with feta, sun-dried tomatoes with mozzarella. along side that I bought 6 different types of hummus, italian meats, bread sticks and I chopped up veggies to dip into the hummus. for the main I bought a gorgeous roasting joint of beef which I put in the slow-cooker last night for 8 hours. this morning the house smelt wonderful the meat fell apart at the touch. I also added some vegetable stock and an onion. to accompany the meat I made a creamy potato mash with roasted root veg. and last but not least, the dessert which went down incredibly well, was a no-bake vanilla cheesecake. it was one of the most simple recipes I have ever used and it came out wonderfully. needless to say, everyone was stuffed by the end and I was incredibly pleased that everyone enjoyed the meal I had made them.

I have taken some photos to show you, but I forgot to take some of the main course as I was a little stressed out (keeping everything hot and trying to serve everyone at the same time was a mission and a half).

happy mother's day for tomorrow :-)

moments

It seems that writing blog posts doesn't fit into my schedule very well. I now have a full time job at a local nursery and I'm usually exhausted by the time I get home. although this is the case during the week, I am going to start writing them on the weekends (if I have time). I'm also about to start my level 3 childcare and education course which will most definitely take priority. my camera has stayed in it's bag for a good few weeks and I'd very much like that to change as soon as possible.

I am going to see Justin Bieber on the 7th (this thursday) with my niece. I'm hoping to take my camera with me and be a tourist! mother's day is also coming up which I'm incredibly excited about. I'm cooking everyone a huge meal on the saturday, and on the sunday we're hopefully going to Audley End House which is incredibly beautiful and I'm very excited to take photos there.

It seems my life has become extremely hectic, but in a good way, and i'm really enjoying my job.

a few weeks ago my dad asked me to take photos of some old photographs he had found, so when the original prints start to deteriorate he has copies. I adore old photos, there is something magical and beautiful about them. they're very personal and of my dad's side of the family, but they're wonderful and I want to share these moments that were captured so long ago, with you.

these are my grandmother's cousins

this is my favourite photo of my dad
this was taken when my grandparents first opened their barber shop.

all these photographs are precious moments, and that's why I love them.
